Well, I called my shot last week and I came up short. I was ready to look silly and I did, I will be the first to admit it. Hopefully, we can bounce back this weekend! Enough chit chat, let’s get straight into it!
Track Report: The weather is going to be hot hot hot, rock hard deck, don’t be surprised if we get to Good 3 territory by the feature races, rail out 2 metres the entire circuit, with the weather and the rail the ideal spot will be up and in near the front, but I think backmarkers will have their fair share of opportunities as well.
Race 1 – 1500M Tab Highway Hcp (C2)
I will stick with Atmospheric Rock here. Has been running pretty consistently this prep and just keeps coming up short. His last start underwhelmed me a little as he just seemed to peak on the run, however, he was a little wide in the trip. If he can grab cover and sit a little closer in transit I think he has the kick to get over the top of them.
Take The Kitty might have been super unlucky all prep but I am not loving his price. He certainly has the chops to be getting the job done, but he is quite short for a Highway favourite. Zac Lloyd goes on for the first time, perhaps that is what is needed for him to get over the line.
Missile Leader was beaten by the barrier last start and he has drawn in a similar position here as well which means he will have to do it the tough way. However, he is a horse that is honest and should be putting in a solid effort no matter what.
Al Ash Lad rounds out selections in due to his strong level of consistency.
Selections: 6-1-4-3
Suggested Bet: Atmospheric Rock Each Way
Race 2 – 1300M Midway (Bm72)
Flying Destiny for me. Never missed a placing and I don’t expect that to change here. Should jump clean, find his way somewhere near the back of the leaders and charge home to find his way into the money and hopefully pick up a 3rd straight win here.
Peace Officer is tearing through the provincial grades lately and deserves his jump to Midway grade here and probably deserve to be favourite. Last prep he has form against Rediener which is A grade form, especially after he won last weekend.
Iron Man has drawn terribly, but if Rachel King can be proactive and get towards the back of the chasing pack he can get around them and over the line.
Bend The Knee is always there or thereabouts in this grade, he rounds out selections.
Selections: 2-7-16-3
Suggested Bet: Flying Destiny Each Way
Race 3 – 1900M Irresistible Pools & Spas (Bm88)
I think Marquess wins here. Should have beat the favourite last start but waited too long to get going. He has a lot of ability in my opinion and I think he can step up to listed grade potentially if he finds the right race. Longer distance here and a better steer, it gets the job done.
Favourite is Howgoodareyou who continues to run well and continues to win. Beaten some strong types in the past including both my pick and a smart one in Call Di. You never know just how good these horses are (No Pun Intended) until they are beaten. She is untapped and lightly raced, another win would be the furthest thing from a shock.
Tazaral comes off a strong run behind the boom horse Just Fine last start and quite honestly that could be form to take him all the way to a win.
Unspoken rounds out selections for me. Has won for me before which annoys me that I am not having him on top. Up in distance suits, only runs well here.
Selections: 8-9-4-6
Suggested Bet: Marquess Win
Race 4 – 1100M Petaluma Heritage Stakes
We all know who I will be on here – Ozzmosis! I love him, he is my favourite horse going around right now. He hasn’t put a foot wrong so far in his career and he has looked absolutely super in all of his track work and gallops in the lead up to this. Just wins in my opinion.
Royal Tribute, Celestial Legend and Namesake round out selections, but I am very confident that Ozzmosis gets the job done here despite Royal Tribute proving to be a massive danger.
Selections: 4-8-5-2
Suggested Bet: Ozzmosis Win (BEST BET)
Race 5 – 2400M James Squire Colin Stephen Quality
I think Verona maybe the only one I can really entertain. Smashed the field two starts back at this track and then proceeded to get smashed by the field favourite here. But with the weight swing, he can bounce back.
Al Aabir is the one that has a bit of X Factor about him coming into this one considering he has Just Fine form and the magic man Joao on board. Could be one of those Waller specials we have come to know and love or hate depending on which side of the fence you are.
Sir Lucan loves this track and should come into this one with pretty much the same gameplan as always – kick to the front, lead, kick hard around the turn and try and break their hearts again. He has done it before, can do it again.
Athabascan to prove lightning can strike twice? Massive run came out of nowhere last start to get a strong win, can he reproduce it? I say no, but he is a must in the exotics.
Selections: 9-7-3-6
Suggested Bet: Verona Win

Race 6 – 1400M Racing & Sports Golden Pendant
D-Day for Zougotcha here and I’ll back her in to bounce back because honestly I don’t think she’s a sprinter, I think she’s 1400-1600 max but they seem to have potentially been chasing Everest because Waller doesn’t know who to pick with Strip out? So back up to a more suitable distance I can see her getting back to her old ways, especially with Ryan Moore on.
Espiona looked fantastic first start back with a slashing run behind a live Everest chance this year so she most likely gets the chance to win another strong race here, but I don’t just trust her. But Waller runners 2nd and 3rd up are always dangerous, she should be ready to go.
Atishu can essentially be given a cut and paste there. He is always a live chance in these sorts of races. Hates the track, but loves the distance and gets the magic man on his back and can fire with that 2nd up Waller charm here.
Banana Queen should find herself a little outclassed here, but I feel like she could look the winner a long way here up on the pace. A must in exotics.
Selections: 3-2-1-5
Suggested Bet: Zougotcha Win
Race 7 – 1500M Ned Whisky Shannon Stakes
Waterford seems to be back and bring him on, we’ve always thought he has the ability to be winning big races so I hope he gets it done here. Up to his pet distance, should find cover and charge over them late.
Cross Talk could be a huge improver here after a bit of a flop first up. Should jump, cross straight to the rails and will be the one they have to run down and quite honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if they can’t catch him.
Williamsburg and Cepheus perhaps the only other two I can see challenging, but I honestly think this one is pretty cut and dry with the top 2 in the market.
Selections: 7-5-10-3
Suggested Bet: Waterford Win
Race 8 – 1400M Kia Golden Rose
Feel like it will be a neck and neck run to the line between two horse, much like the Golden Slipper, Cylinder and Shinzo. I think this time around Cylinder is the one to be on. I think with the added fitness that Cylinder has accrued over his last few starts, compared to Shinzo being first up over a distance he has never seen, the boy in Godolphin blue will edge him out in the end. Only thing that gets Shinzo home is the jockey – Ryan Moore, he was the only reason he won the slipper in the first place, so don’t be surprised if he gets him up this weekend as well. Shinzo’s main focus is the Everest as well, so I think Cylinder, who was set specifically for this race should be winning.
King Colorado and Encap bring the different form here that could prove to be the winning factor. King Colorado was racing in the Winx Stakes and finishing just a couple of lengths off of the older horses, that has to be A grade form coming into this one. Encap comes out of the Ming Dynasty and slashed the clock in very impressive fashion. I think these two will be right in the thick of things come the finish.
Selections: 3-2-4-8
Suggested Bet: Cylinder Win
Race 9 – 1400M Chandon (Bm88)
I’m on Perille here. The form behind Garza Blanca is strong and he has it after losing to him by a whisker last start. He’s scratched a few times looking for easier tasks and he finds that here. Only query is the distance, however, he has been racing like it will suit.
Chorlton Lane is a smart horse that I have a lot of time for a he hasn’t really done anything wrong so far down under with 4 strong runs to date. 3 of those runs have been at this track with 2 of them ending in victory so he is certainly well placed.
Loch Eagle is a touch overs in my mind here. Yes, he hasn’t won in a while, since about this time last year if my memory serves me correctly, but he has a very strong turn of foot which needs to be respected, especially if the leaders give him a nice cart into the race.
Maotai rounds out selections as he is always a chance, one of those horses that only rocks up if he wants to. If he is ready to rock and roll, don’t be surprised if he gets the win at big odds.
Selections: 11-9-3-2
Suggested Bet: Perille Win
Race 10 – 1100M Tab We’re On (Bm78)
I will go Tristate for a bit of a throw at the stumps in the last, as it is a very open contest. Gapped the field last start with Olentia and even though she hasn’t proven to be as good as her hype, she would still be beating this field. So I think that is strong enough form to go off, happy to be on.
Extravagant Star deserves to be well liked in the market due to her win over Smashing Eagle who has had a strong prep himself to date so I think the formlines will stack up here for her. She should jump, find herself somewhere near the front and make her case around the 200 mark and will most likely need to be the one they run down late.
Ojai is one of those horses that is always running into one or two better than her, but she continues to drop back in grade so she can find her rightful place. This could very well be it.
Rainbiel is a horse I was happy to get around last start as the potential of being Mariamia 2.0, that she was not, but she can always get a solid win in this sort of company with luck.
Selections: 6-11-13-7
Suggested Bet: Tristate Each Way
