Not the most ideal of starts last week with only our best bet getting up but I’m far more confident today. I have 4 selections that I’m confident will pay us back and bring in some chocolates.
Race 1 #4 Fine Touch (Best Bet)
I’m with the favourite in the first and with good reason. She comes to Ascot when last seen in a 66+ race over 1600 when giving the rest of the field a nice gapping. Willy Pike sticks and from barrier 6 he’ll be able to slide over and either take up the running or sit outside the leader. From there she can use her motor over the 1800m and storm clear of the rest. There’s no real competition here and with progressiveness she’ll be very hard to beat. Keen to start the day on her and I’m confident she’ll pay us back.
Race 3 #2 Zipaway
Will be doing just that in the third race of the day. Comes in off a 28 day break after winding up from the back and breaking his maiden last time out. He beat home Barney’s World who’s come through this race with a subsequent win and narrow second, and Masamune who’s ran second also. Will get a cozy run from the barrier with Stevie Parnham sticking to him. He took a while to get going last time as he trucked into the run before letting down nicely, so the step up to 1400m looks perfect. Confident he can win this for us.
Race 7 #2 Acromantula
The speedy spider comes home after a very successful campaign in Melbourne where he did what he always does, run very very fast over 1000m. He’s the 1000m specialist of the west and after seeing him sparring with the big guns over east beating the likes of Sweet Ride, Omni Man, Hypothetical and Ashford Street, good horses in their own right. Pike is booked and from barrier 7 he won’t have any problem taking up proceedings and over the 1000m at Ascot late in the day on a rock hard track, he might be too fast for this race. Happy to be in his corner.
Race 8 #10 River Rubicon (Value Bet)
I think River Rubicon can run a very cheeky race here at a big quote. He meets a lot of these horses far fitter and has had a great preparation so far, with a run in the Railway stakes looking like the likely goal. He won like a beast two back when storming home from near last. His last start was a total forgive when too far back in a slowly run race where the two leaders bolted clear by 5 lengths and gave nothing a hope. He battled away gamely down the outside and sticking to the 1400m looks ideal and with a better barrier this week he’s in with a good chance. Just a small each away play on River Rubicon in the feature race. Decent chance.
That’s all from me for this week! Hopefully, I have snagged a few winners here and we can celebrate with some beers on Saturday night!
