G’Day, legends, Nicko here and I like to think of myself as quite the savant when it comes to AFL Fantasy and Supercoach and after a strong start to the year, I thought I may as well lend my advice out to anyone that needs some help with their teams. Weekly, I’ll be bringing you my AFL Supercoach team, discussing who laid well, who didn’t and what my strategy going forward is regarding captains and trades.
Round 1 Score: 2130 – Ranking 4117/169248 (Top 2%)
Defenders
Happy with this. Stupidly didn’t pick a reserve and Yeo Didn’t Play for me this week so sat one player down in the backline and could have had a Wilmot earn me 50 extra points, which would have seen that ranking go up even further. This is why you need to pay attention, one little slip like that can sot you some valuable points.
Dawson (ADE) – The Adelaide skipper hits the tonne and I am happy with that, he will be the anchor down back.
Young (Fre) – Wow how good. He’s going to be a great player this year both on the field and on the SC scorebook, a genuine lock in my lineup. 137 points to start us, how good!?
Daicos (COLL) – He was always gonna have a big game, he’s a key player in the Pies’ side and mine. 129 won’t be the highest score he gets this year.
Ginbey (WC) – A solid 85 points on debut, licking my lips he is gonna generate some big money for me. If you don’t have him, get him! He is only about 170k, no excuses.
McKenna (BNE) – You wouldn’t know this bloke has been out of footy for a couple of years. Serious cash cow potential, get him in ASAP.
Wilmot (BNE) and Chesser (WC) – Chopping away at the bench. As long as they hit breakeven and make some coin I’m happy.
Midfielders
Bit of opportunity for changes in the next few weeks here for sure. Expected more from some of these players.
Oliver (MEL)– 113 and was my captain for the week, so double the points. Definitely, a pass mark for him, as he should be expected to hit this most weeks. Happy as.
Green (GWS) – This bloke is in for a massive year, I am telling you, Giants midfield now revolves around him. He is a deadset jet and was just about everywhere on the weekend. Get him in.
Horne-Francis (PA) – I knew he’d go well with a different club, sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery to get you going. 136 is amazing for his price.
Hopper (RICH) – Definitely not as good as I hoped. Can’t complain when he is only 332k 67 points though, with his role, I would like him to be around the 80-point mark.
Sheed (WC) – Hell yes! 89 points. Smashed my expectations. He will make money at just 332K.
Callaghan (GWS) – 101 while he is still young, very very good. Many people forget he was once a 3rd Overall Draft Pick behind JHF and Daicos, he’ll be a great pickup.
Ashcroft (BNE) – Expected a bit more from the big fella, impressive numbers in the preseason but hasn’t translated into round one, willing to forgive, but I am not overly patient.
Phillips (NM) – Good debut 65 points is decent, can’t complain.
Constable (GC) – Good to see him back playing footy at the top level. Will generate cash for sure.
Roberts (SYD) – If he keeps his spot in the team he will be a good cash generator. Tore it up in the VFL last year.
Rucks
One of, if not the most crucial position in SC in my opinion and it was definitely good performance from these two lads.
Marshall (STK) 80 & Cameron (COLL) 103. I’ll take that. I am obviously building some coin to get the top rucks eventually instead of having them early. They did that job in round one.
Forwards
Bang! This was massive for me, my pride and joy. The Forward line did bits!
Dunkley (BNE) 108, Rozee (PA) 97, Taranto (RICH) 103, Martin (RICH) 84 and Gulden (SYD) 115 all did their job. Big points from the boys definitely cannot complain.
Now time for the flop of the round and I’m not happy. Nat Fyfe (FRE) gets a measly 26 points. Well, he does not look good at all. If you want you can give him another chance but pretty disappointing from a former Brownlow medalist.
Sheezel (NM) was only on the bench for me, which is disappointing that I didn’t get his 114 points, but he is making some money for me so I am stoked. This bloke is gonna be good.
Overall Thoughts
A decent round and pretty happy with round one, especially finding myself in the Top 2%.
Backs – Trade Targets: Watch Luke Ryan (FRE), Sam Docherty (CAR) and Jake Lloyd (SYD). 3 players that can potentially slip into the team.
Trades – Sitting with it this week. Will let Ginbey, and McKenna build some coin then upgrade them later in the season.
Mids – Trade Targets: A lot here. My midfield is definitely my opportunity. Lots of young players in there and will be offloaded when the chance is given.
Davies-Uniacke (NM), Rowell (GC), and Setterfield (ESS) are three to watch. Not top of-market players but looks like they are going to have big years.
Trades – Hopper (RICH) is on the chopping block radar over the next few weeks. Will let him play but his role doesn’t look too good for me at Richmond.
Rucks – Trade Targets: Jarrod Witts (GC). A massive year is incoming and he is not the top-of-the-price ruckman.
Need to seriously get onto him early he will be up there with Gawn (MEL) all year.
Trades – Marshall (STK) and Cameron (COLL) can stay there, for now, they are doing their job.
Forwards – Trade Targets: Obviously the top-of-the-range players. Coniglio (GWS) looking back at his best, Toby Greene (GWS) as well. Pickett (MEL) is an interesting one. I had him in and out of my team this pre-season. Melbourne confirming he will be attending more centre bounces was huge and he hits it with a 120-point Round 1. So, now that he has multiple positions, he is definitely huge value to be bringing into your team.
Definitely will be watching him. And see if he needs to kick goals to make points.
A young gun from Melbourne as well, Kade Chandler (MEL), is definitely on my radar. 93 points and now a breakeven of -30 will be my cash cow to get in for the week if you haven’t already (That is if you already have the big main ones like Sheezel (NM) and Callaghan (GWS))
Trades: Nat Fyfe (FRE) has to go. The breakeven is up at 80 now. Not the role everyone thought he will play. Good-bye Fyfe. In comes, the young gun Chandler (MEL) to chill on the bench and Sheezel (NM) gets promoted to the field.
Whacking the E on Wilmot, Constable, Chandler and Roberts.
New Team
That’s all from me this week lads. Good luck and if you have any questions by all means hit me up.
