What a round of AFL footy we had last week! Some contentious umpire calls as well as interesting upsets defined Round 3. When it comes to the votes, Nick Daicos continues his ascent to the top, while an injury to Luke Davies-Uniacke saw him fall behind the pace a little. But there is plenty of time to make up ground of course.
Let’s get into it!
Round 3 Votes
Bulldogs (67) def Lions (53)
Great game this, Bulldogs came out on top after a hard-fought battle. Good to see them playing some better footy finally.
1 Vote – Tom Liberatore (WB) 29 touches, 9 tackles, 6 score involvements. Turned back the clock with this one.
2 Votes – Jamarra Ugle-Hagen (WB) 5 goals and consistent domination down front. Played really well and it is good to see him starting to mature into AFL footy and be the strong presence that we knew he could be.
3 votes – Marcus Bontempelli (WB) 28 touches with 16 of them being contested possessions, 8 clearances and 6 tackles. Hard ball wins all day.
Collingwood (63) Def Tigers (49)
Close contest this. Was an arm wrestle all game and a low-scoring first half. Great win for FLAGpies.
1 vote – Josh Daicos (Coll) . 28 touches, 1 goal, 14 contested possessions. Really playing well on the wing for Collingwood in some AA form so far.
2 votes- Nick Daicos (Coll). What a gun. This kid could seriously win the Brownlow! Some teams are going to have to start giving him some attention because he literally is the backbone of Collingwood’s team. 33 touches, 5 score involvements.
3 Votes – Jordon De Goey (Coll) – Easily best on. Dictated the game. Playing some really good footy here and is giving me Dane Swan vibes. Gets that hard ball and utilises it very very well. 35 touches, 15 contested, 8 score involvements, and 9 clearances.
Hawthorn (80) Def North Melbourne (61)
Good to see Hawthorn get some rare points for this year and disappointing that a late blow to LDU saw him miss out on some votes.
1 vote – James Sicily (Haw). 28 touches, 21 kicks a whopping 18 marks. Snags one point and deserves it.
2 votes- Will Day (Haw)– this guy is gonna be some player. 21-year-old, 29 possessions, 20 kicks, 11 marks, 9 score involvements and 5 clearances. Really doing good.
3 votes- Dylan Moore (Haw). Best game I’ve seen this guy play. 26 touches, 2 goals and 12 marks. 9 score involvements to add to it. Sealed the game for the Hawks which we haven’t seen from their forward line in recent years.
GWS (64) Def By Carlton (74)
A great game marred by the Umpires changing the momentum late in the contest to get Carlton over the line. Stupid descent call!
1 Vote- Sam Docherty (Car). 39 touches, 10 marks, 1 goal and 10 score involvements. Huge player
2 votes – Nick Newman (Car) 24 touches @ 88%, 9 intercept possessions, 5 score involvements, 11 marks.
3 votes- Patrick Cripps (Car) King. Dad. 42 touches, 11 score involvements, and 13 clearances. BOG by a mile. All time game from him.
St Kilda (92) Def Essendon (74)
Saints get up appropriately in their Birthday contest to start the year 3-0!
1 vote – Callum Wilkie (Stk), 19 touches @ 90%, 13 marks, 11 intercept possessions. Was intercepting all day downtick transistioning into forward attack.
2 votes – Jack Higgins (Stk), 4 snags and 19 touches. Higgins playing some good footy for the Saints which is awesome to see for the fan favourite.
3 votes – Mason Wood (Stk) 27 touches, 1 goal, 11 marks, 7 score involvements, 21 kicks. Controlled the game all over the ground. Easy 3 votes.
Port Adelaide (86) Def By Adelaide (117)
The showdown! What a wrestle. I love these clashes just as much as the players do. So much passion in the game. The Crows get over the line in an impressive display.
1 vote- Connor Rozee (PA), 28 touches. 1 goal, 6 score involvements, 6 clearances. Cleans up one vote.
2 votes- Riley Thilthorpe (Adel) 5 snags. Say no more.
3 votes – Izak Rankine (Adel). This guy has come back from an ACL a couple of years back, moved clubs and is now the missing piece Adelaides needed in the forward line. The way he works with Thilthorpe is amazing. He is so good at forward stoppages. 4 goals 17 touches 5 tackles and 8 score involvements.
Gold Coast (73) Def Geelong (54)
What an upset! The Cats have a major premiership hangover. They need a win soon or things could get ugly!
1 vote- Lachie Weller (GC) 29 touches, 7 Maris and 5 score involvements. Scrapes in 1 vote.
2 votes- Jack Lukosius (GC) 5 snags. Huge from him. 12 score involvements and 9 marks. Fantastic game.
3 votes – Matt Rowell (GC) Is he back? Getting some good form after an injury string for a while. 24 touches, 18 of which are contested. What a bull! 9 clearances. What a legend.
Melbourne (134) Def Sydney (84)
Great arm wrestle until the last quarter with Melbourne showing class and running away with it majorly.
1 vote – Brodie Grundy (Mel) 25 hit outs, 21 disposals and 9 score involvements. Had a big game when Gawny misses out.
2 votes- Christian Petracca (Mel) 33 touches, 6 clearances, 8 score involvements. He’s a gun
3 votes – Clayton Oliver (Mel) 25 touches, and 2 goals. Hitting the scoreboard as a midfielder is so important and to do it twice shows his dominance. Easy. 3 votes.
Fremantle (108) Def Eagles (67)
Death, Taxes and Eagles being injury prone. They were there for much of the contest but no match when they were left without a bench in the last quarter. Was just miserable.
1 vote – Sam Switkowski (Fre) 21 touches 2 goals. Did well upfront.
2 votes – Tim Kelly (WC) In a losing side he shined. 33 touches, 9 score involvements, 5 clearances.
3 Votes – Caleb Serong (Fre). BOG by far. What a jet. 35 touches, 16 contested possessions, 9 score involvements and 8 clearances. What a game!
